Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) in our Preschool Speech and Language program screen, assess, identify and treat speech, language, voice, fluency (stuttering), listening, and social communication concerns in children from birth to school entry. Communicative Disorders Assistants (CDAs) play an important role in providing treatment services under the supervision of Speech-Language Pathologists.
Our approach to treatment is built on the principle that parents / caregivers are the main teachers of their child’s speech and language development.
Treatment can be offered through a variety of avenues including groups, all with a focus on teaching parents and caregivers how to promote skills on a daily basis, not just while at therapy.
Please note: Referrals for Preschool Speech and Language can be made until April 1 of the year the child is entering school (up to grade 1 if school entry is delayed). For example, if a child is starting school for the first time this September and the date the caregiver is completing this checklist is May 5 of the same year, the child is not eligible for our Preschool Speech and Language program.
If your child is not eligible for our program, please discuss your concerns about your child's speech and/or language with your child's school. A referral may be initiated by the school for other resources available to school-aged children.
